Private museum showcasing Armenian traditional medicine and the medical heritage of Armenian culture, with unique collection of medical artifacts. The Armenian Medical Museum, officially known as Harutyun Minasian's private collection, opened on May 18, 1999 in Yerevan and represents a remarkable repository of Armenian traditional medicine and cultural heritage spanning centuries of medical practice. Located on the sixth floor of the Nor Arabkir medical center, this unique institution houses approximately 5,000 carefully curated pieces from Minasian's extensive 30,000-item collection, showcasing the evolution of Armenian medical traditions from ancient times to the modern era. The museum's extraordinary collection includes ancient medical instruments, mortars made from stone, bronze, and wood, copper and clay vessels, phials and cups, along with rare medical books dating back 200 years, including "The Brief Medical School" written by Petros Kalantaryan in 1793 and "Jermants Mkhitarutyun" by the renowned 12th-century physician Mkhitar Heratsi. Beyond its pharmaceutical artifacts, the museum preserves the biographies of hundreds of Armenian doctors, manuscripts from 19th and 20th-century medical students, vintage medical periodicals, and personal belongings of distinguished Armenian physicians from both Armenia and the diaspora. Visitors can explore authentic medical furniture, household objects, and even listen to period gramophones, creating an immersive experience that bridges the gap between historical medical practices and contemporary healthcare, while honoring the significant contributions of Armenian healers to global medical knowledge.
