Displays over 1,000 artifacts chronicling California's pharmacy history, including drugstore furniture, bottles, and advertisements. The Don & June Salvatori California Pharmacy Museum houses thousands of pharmacy artifacts spanning more than two centuries of pharmaceutical practice, celebrating the vital role of California pharmacists in promoting public health since statehood in 1850. Visitors journey through three distinct historical periods via meticulously recreated pharmacy environments: an 1890s apothecary featuring pressed tin ceilings and beautifully crafted glass bottles with glass labels, a 1940s community pharmacy showcasing extensive over-the-counter products and vintage prescription books filled with traditional remedies, and a modern Good Neighbor Pharmacy donated by AmerisourceBergen. The museum's exceptional collection includes an extensive international display of mortars and pestles crafted from wood, metal, and ceramic materials donated by Sander Gelfand, plus a remarkable research library containing nearly 80 years of California pharmacy journals and historical pharmaceutical texts. Located at the California Pharmacists Association headquarters in Sacramento, this intimate museum offers guided tours by appointment, providing both general visitors and pharmacy professionals with unique insights into the evolution of pharmaceutical practice and the enduring commitment of California's pharmacy community to public health.
